Your support will change my life, my family, my community …

„Your support will change my life, my family, my community around me and will change my country once I finish these studies.“

Words by Joseph Lihoma, a ZIKOMO student in Malawi doing a Bachelor’s degree in Law. He wrote us this letter to report on his academic year:

Greetings from Zomba,
I hope you are doing well and the entire Zikomo organization too. We have closed the academic 2014/2015 on Friday. I am happy that I have finished my second year in the law school and waiting anxiously for the third year. According to the proposed school calendar, the next academic year begins 25th January, 2016, however the college has given a discretion that the date is subject to change to begin school earlier.
I want to share how my experience has been over this academic year. It was indeed a wonderful and challenging year for my academic career as law students. As a law student, I have not only been involved in classes work, but I involved myself in community outreach which our law school organized in the Chancellor College legal clinic.
With regard to academic life, It was indeed a challenging year however I worked hard to internalize the knowledge of law learn and also to pass for my exams. Am sure the labor I toiled will bear fruits one day. One of the challenges that I had was that I don’t have a personal computer which I could use soft copy books as most of the books we are using are in soft copies. Despite this I worked hard to achieve my dream.
As I have stated above that I was not only involved in academic issues, also I joined the chancellor college legal clinic in which students voluntary give legal advice for free to people around Zomba District. Through this voluntary legal advice to the members of the community around, I had a practical hand on knowledge on my future career as a lawyer and also got in touch with the reality of the local people in terms of legal issues. I am sure my advice to these local people has helped a lot.
I really want to express my appreciation for the financial support you are rendering to my studies. Your support indeed gives me hope for my future. Nelson Mandela once said that education is the most powerful weapon with one can use to change the world; and I want to say the same words that your financial support to my education is the most powerful weapon which you have used to change my world.
Your support will change my life, my family, my community around me and will change my country once I finish these studies. I wish you all the best as you continue helping me to realize this dream. Once again thank you for your support and the hope you give to my future.

Yours faithfully
Joseph Lihoma
